Google Play and Apple App Store Games Comparison

Reviewed at the newly launched website called Killer Game Deals, the author of the website has conducted several reviews on iOS and Google Play Store applications. These types of games are generally aimed to provide a standing source of entertainment at the right price. In some instances, the games listed in both stores are free however, it does not guarantee that the game work flawlessly on devices. Below will be some of the games noted on the website which may interest players before deciding to purchase them.

Dragon Flight
This is a game hosted in both stores. The only difference in the Google Play store, the game is free and links to a social messaging app called KakaoTalk. In the App store, the game is free and stands alone. Comparing both games on two different devices, the game works best on the iPad. The controls are smooth allowing easier navigation of your character. The game can be played on the iPhone but it is recommended to play on a bigger screen to spot approaching obstacles. When playing the game on an Android device, the controls are not as smooth thus leading to more failed attempts in the game. This game is highly recommended on iPad devices; bigger screen and a clearer view of the game. Also it must be noted that in the App store, players can unlock 2 additional classes for $0.99 each. In the Google Play store, these same characters can be unlocked by purchasing virtual currency in the form of crystals.

Chrono Trigger
This title is a classic by Square Enix. Right now the game was recently introduced into the store allowing fans to download this classic title. The price is equal in both stores. The only difference are the different game controls on both devices. Comparatively, Chrono Trigger worked well on iPhones and iPads before the iOS 6 update. Since the update, the game continues to experience crashes and freezes which was not evident prior to the update. On Android devices, users experience frustrating controls deeming the controls ‘sloppy’ and ‘unintuitive’. Square Enix has still yet to resolve this issue on both platforms.

Fruit Ninja
Fruit Ninja is an enjoyable title introduced in the App store on April 21, 2010.The game made its debut on Android devices however, the reception was not as solid as it was in the App store. Both were priced at $0.99 and the game had a tendency to crash on Android devices and caused the device to overheat after a short period of time. It is recommended for to play this game on iOS devices due to the constant engagement of updates which lacks in the Google Play store.

How To Develop Android Apps: Getting Started

In this article, I will give an introduction on how to develop Android apps. I will not get into many technical details but rather give an overview of the approaches you should consider before you get started.

Smartphones are taking the World by storm. In may 2012 a news item appeared which stated that in Europe, more than 50% of all new mobile phones sold were smartphones. In 2011 the worldwide sales figures of Android phones exceeded those of the iPhone, the phone that started the “smartphone revolution”.

With the growing number of Android phones, the number of available apps (small programs designed to work on these devices) has also grown explosively. In addition to mobile phones, other devices such as tablet computers that run on the Android operating system are also gaining popularity. The consequence of all this is that there is a growing need for Android apps.

The Google Play Store (formerly Android Market) is growing at an enormous rate: there are now over 500,000 apps available. These are very diverse: utility apps such as text messengers, task managers and email clients but also a host of games. The most popular apps are being downloaded millions of times. Other interesting categories are apps that enhance businesses. Examples of these are apps that enable customers to purchase products right from their mobile phone or apps that provide the location of a company branch in the vicinity of the user.

The increasing popularity of mobile apps gives rise to many interesting business opportunities. This trend is unlikely to change any time soon and established business around the world are acknowledging this fact. Not only have many businesses produced mobile apps to grow their revenue or enhance their image. The rise of mobile apps appears to be changing the way businesses and consumers think about software. A telling example comes from Microsoft: the new Windows 8 operating system has a “mobile look and feel” and the software programs in the system are now referred to as “apps”.

So, if you want to learn how to develop Android apps where should you start? It depends on your previous experience (if any) and the amount of time and money you are willing to spend.

The most obvious route is doing all the programming yourself. To do this you need knowledge of the Java programming language and the Android Software Development Kit. If you have never programmed before, you will have to learn a lot about subjects such as object oriented programming and working with the necessary developer tools. This is the long, hard road to becoming an app developer… however, if you succeed at making your first few apps, it can be extremely satisfying and you will have gained a lot of useful knowledge!

If you do not know how to program and don’t want to learn how to write Android apps then, fortunately, there are other options. Several software products exist which make the app for you. Most of these are online applications that use “wizards” and templates. A limitation of this approach is that you will not have as much control over the result as you would when doing all the programming yourself. Some of these app makers are free, others offer a subscription service or a one time payment.

If app creation software doesn’t suit your needs, a third way is to hire a freelancer or a company to do the developing. If you are an individual hobbyist or running a small business, this may seem intimidating and expensive. However, using a resource such as oDesk we now have access to many cheap freelancers living outside of North America and Europe. Many are very capable at their job, so developing your app this way does not have to cost much at all.

Personally, I started out trying to do all the programming myself. I couldn’t find an online app maker that suited my needs and I did not want to spend a lot of money. However, although I had a little coding experience, I am not a software developer by profession. So when a relatively simple programming problem reared its head, I got stuck.

After some hesitation, I decided to let a freelancer solve the problem and this sped up the development of my app enormously! It did not cost me a lot of money (around $100) and I was able to get the app to the market much faster than if I had done everything myself. This allowed me to start testing the responses of customers sooner to see if it was a viable business idea.

This “hybrid” approach worked for me but you will have to find out for yourself what works best for you. Which method you choose doesn’t matter as long as you reach your goal: making the idea you have right now for your app a reality. Something that people can use and enjoy, and perhaps will make you some money or help your existing business!

In conclusion, there are several ways to get started developing Android apps. With so much information and services at your disposal, you have the opportunity to make your “dream app” a reality!

The market of Google’s Android OS has remarkably increased in size and persuaded almost all major brands to launch their version of Android Smartphone. Since this OS came into users’ hands, it has become one of the most popular platforms; a pocket-to-fit-PC whose performance is never less than what a laptop or desktop does. Certain features; such as low application development cost, quickly growing platform, support to interactive media features, support to Java and Flash, support to most of the graphics & media formats and tools, and availability of SDK, helping developers and programmers in structuring rich and unique apps, have made Android the second to none OS globally. We can surmise the popularity of Android OS by the fact that more than 500,000 apps are downloaded every day and in the first quarter of 2011, it exceeded iOS as well. Considering this, businesses, corporate, NGOs, news & entertainment channels, educational bodies, and even government departments are getting Android apps developed to increase the horizon of their services.

When it comes to Android application development, the obligatory things are knowledge and talent, working on plans and implementing them into reality. Now, powerful mobile applications can quickly be developed and easily be provided to users. Being an open source platform, developers can develop and customize the operating system level apps at affordable charges. Here, I am going to give you information about the elements supported by Android software development: This Operating system supports most of the formats of audio, video, and image including MP3, AAC MIDI and WAV (audio); MPEG-4, H.264 and H.263 (video); JPG, GIF, PNG, and BMP (image).(By certain third party apps, the support to audio, video and image can by enhanced to other formats too) Android can also provide support to a wide range of graphic libraries such as 3D graphic and 2-D graphics. 2-D graphic helps in static application, animation and interactive games. Including 2D, the OS also supports high performance 3D graphics with the Open Graphic Library (OpenGL); a cross platform graphics API, specifying standard software interface for 3D graphics processing hardware.

It supports different date receiving and sending technologies such as EDGE, EV-DO, GSM, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and UMTS. The latest version of Android OS does support 4G as well.

This operating system is fully compatible with touch screens (both resistive and capacitive), accelerometer, video camera, GPS, magnetometer, and P2P (peer-to-peer) date sharing and distribution. It supports four main concepts of Android apps development: Activities, Broadcast receiver, Services and Content provider. When developed by an expert company, such as Rapidsoft Technologies, Android App can deliver remarkable growth in your business.
